Dance Anywhere
Fri., March 22, 12 p.m. 2013
For the past nine years, as part of the annual “Dance Anywhere” celebration, people from across six continents and 45 countries have stopped to simultaneously dance in parks, museums, streets, schools, work places, community centers, offices, and more. Everyone is invited to participate: dancers and artists, of course, but also dentists, students, teachers, politicians, electricians, and truck drivers (provided they’re parked). Pause to consider how diversely all those different people — in all those different spaces, in all those different countries — might define “dance” in the first place and you’ve got, in a nutshell, the grand scheme of the whole endeavor. On Friday, Mar. 22, join the Oakland Museum of California (1000 Oak St., Oakland) in its third year participating in the event, as it features contemporary troupe AXIS Dance Company leading an all-inclusive, worldwide dancing celebration. Noon, free. 510-318-8400 or MuseumCA.org
