dance anywhere® at YBCA this year will be a performance directed by Beth Fein, the artist who instigated dance anywhere®. “rock bisque is a performance, very much like dance anywhere® – everyone contributes to the work. Each dancer brings something of themselves and their movement to the process. It is based on an improvisational score mixed with choreography that is simmered and spiced with Alex Kelly’s live cello music. I envision it as a performance installation, to be walked around and seen from different perspectives. This is an impermanent art installation that temporarily transforms the space and then dissolves away.”
A graduate of CCAC (CCA) she has been a visual artist, dancer and performer for over thirty years in the Bay Area. Fein is currently an Artist-in-Residence at KALA Art Institute in Berkeley, CA. Her most recent solo work “Voices” is currently at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley, CA. This work is the beginning of a new interactive project that will include video and performance. Fein continues to blend her art practices of visual and performance work, and is increasingly creating collaborative, interactive, public art. Her conceptual performance work puts into motion many of the concepts of her sculptural and two dimensional art, expanding the notion of dance and movement as existing in a specific or limited time and space. The performances purposefully blur the line between artist and audience, and invites chance elements into the performance. At the core of her work, is both movement and flow; pressing against the boundaries seperating art and life.
